The F-Type is pretty solid. But there are three important issues to watch when buying one (and none is a deal breaker imo): Supercharger isolator rattle, fuel injector smoke screen and the diff. E-Diff is known to cook itself, all the diffs are known to fail and/or weep due to bad seals.
The V8 sounds loud and harsh compared to the harmonic V6, the RWD GT roots are lost, the heavy car is even more overweight, and although all variants of the F-Type is far from being a "pig", the car starts to feel like lipstick on a pig. 3. 0000000127 ⢠'11 M3, '03 S2000, '14 E63 Wagon ⢠6 yr. ago.
Hey all, Iām a little ways away from being able to pull the trigger, but have wanted an F Type for a long time now. Could afford the car before but not the potential maintenance, thinking in the next year or so I might look into one due to that changing. I test drove the supercharged V6 model and it was an absolute blast.
It is a surprisingly reliable car. The reputation for Jaguar unreliability (mechanically) is something I have yet to see with friends and family who have had/have a number of the final generation of XJ, XE, and the first generation XF. The user interface/screen may be frustrating, but the rest of the car has a high chance of being great.
Thereās a great YouTube video that I used when buying my 2015 F-Type V8S by āSkrrt Garageā called reliability/buyers guide. He tells you what to look for. I would honestly buy it though. I love my convertible Jag and nothing beats that exhaust note. I use mine as a summer/weekend car. I wouldnāt recommend it as a daily/winter car.
